Our first original production is a show where we get our talented musician friends to play music they’ve never heard before.

"It’s A Mix Up!" is a web series that brings collaboration, improvisation, and artistic exchange within India’s independent music community. With the tagline “The show where we separate DJs from their favourite songs,” the series playfully disrupts the conventional DJ format to encourage artistic risk-taking and mutual discovery. The show invites artists to step into each other’s sonic worlds literally playing sets using music selected by someone else.

The inspiration for the project emerged organically. Over the past year, Shoumik noticed a pattern: a group of us kept playing each other’s tracks at house parties and informal gatherings. This sparked the idea—what if we brought that same spirit of casual exchange into a live gig setting? When the idea was brought to the rest of the Spitting Image team, it quickly evolved into a structured video-format show.

We were particularly interested in how this setup could bring dance music out of strictly club spaces and into new environments—where the intention and dynamic of a DJ set shift, and where artists are encouraged to expand and evolve their musical palettes.
